Job Opportunity: Cardiac Cath / IR Technologist

Location: Rockford, Illinois
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Day shift with on-call rotation (weeknights, weekends, and holidays)
Hours: 32-40 hours per week


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Cath Lab / Interventional Radiology Technologist with experience at a Level 1 Trauma Center. The role involves working in cardiovascular intervention specialties including Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Neurology, Interventional Radiology, and Electrophysiology. The candidate will be trained across all these specialties.


Key Responsibilities

  • Verify patient identification and informed procedural consent.
  • Identify allergies and history of contrast reactions prior to procedures.
  • Prepare and verify sterile supplies and medications.
  • Monitor and record vital signs; assess distal pulses pre- and post-procedure.
  • Participate in pre-procedural time-out activities.
  • Prepare access sites with sterile drapes and ensure patient comfort.
  • Assist physician in selecting contrast agents and operate automatic contrast injectors.
  • Administer injectable medications as ordered (analgesics, anticoagulants, thrombolytics, vasoactives, emergency meds).
  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
  • Maintain and calibrate medical equipment during procedures.
  • Scrub with physicians using sterile and aseptic techniques.
  • Advocate for radiation safety; wear radiation dosimeter and document fluoroscopy time and dose.
  • Position patients and imaging equipment to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
  • Acquire and process digital images, including 3D reconstructions.
  • Assist with ultrasound guidance for vascular or organ access/biopsy.
  • Monitor and record all procedural data including injection, physiologic data, medications, and complications.
  • Assist with vascular access and all assigned diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Provide post-procedural care including applying pressure, dressings, and vascular closure devices.
  • Provide practical instruction to students and partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of recent Cath Lab Technologist experience.
  • Experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist.
  • Experience working at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
  • IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation.
  • ARRT(R) certification.
  • ARRT(VI) or ARRT(CI) certification.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Experience

  • Experience working in a Level 1 Trauma Center preferred.
  • Specialty: Diagnostic Imaging / Cardiovascular Intervention.
