Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Description

• Work on a General Medical/Oncology (GMU) step down unit caring for general medical and oncology stepdown patients.
• Oncology/Chemotherapy experience is highly preferred.
• Administering chemotherapy via IV and starting IVs required.
• Use of equipment such as Welch Allyn Vital Sign Towers, Sigma IV Pumps, and EPIC for documentation.
• Nurse to patient ratio typically 1:4-6, with support staff available if ratios increase. Chemotherapy admissions reduce assignment ratios.
• Floating to other medical-surgical areas including Acute Unit (AU) and Emergency Room (ER) to care for med-surg patients.
• Weekend work: every other weekend required.
• No call responsibilities.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated; scheduling involves manager-assigned weekends and self-scheduling for other days.
• Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment. Any requests for time off after offer must be discussed with onsite management.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
• Minimum 2 years of stepdown nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with IV chemotherapy administration
• Oncology/Chemotherapy experience highly preferred
• Skills in chemotherapy administration and IV starts required

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to work every other weekend.
• Will float to other med-surg areas including AU and ER.
• No call required.
• Must complete required background checks including criminal background, national and state searches, and education verification.
• Must complete required health documents including physical exam (within 1 year), immunizations (Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B or declination), negative TB test or chest x-ray, drug testing (10-panel including THC), and flu vaccination or approved exemption.
• Fingerprinting and state-specific registry clearances required as applicable.
• Must complete medication and competency exams within 1 year prior to assignment start.
• Must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards.

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Weekend shifts every other weekend.
• Floating to other med-surg units including AU and ER.
• No call responsibilities.
• Block scheduling may be available upon request.
• Nurse to patient ratio generally 1:4-6, with support staff to assist if ratios increase.

Notes

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
• Oncology and chemotherapy experience and certifications are highly preferred but not strictly required if pending certification is acceptable.
• Must be able to start and commit to the first two weeks of the assignment.
