Job Opportunity: Cytotechnologist
Location
- Peoria, Illinois
Job Summary
- Perform specialized and complex technical tasks screening clinical specimen slides for cancer or other pathological conditions.
- Mark abnormalities, render diagnoses, and determine cases for quality control or pathologist review.
- Conduct routine quality control and cellular evaluations for specimen adequacy.
- Prepare cell samples for microscopic examination.
- Assist pathologists with fine needle aspiration procedures and determine cellular adequacy in Radiology on thyroid aspirations.
- Maintain compliance with safety protocols, quality control, and CAP requirements.
- Use Epic EMR system.
Work Schedule
- Day shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- 40 hours per week
- No weekend, holiday, call, or standby requirements
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Certified Cytologist (CT) via ASCP
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC)
- Active Illinois license or proof that application process has been initiated
- Experience in a large hospital setting preferred
- Must comply with drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen

Key Responsibilities
- Screen and evaluate cellular samples microscopically for abnormalities.
- Perform quality control reviews and competency checks for junior cytotechnologists.

- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment following universal precautions and chemical hygiene plans.
- Assist in specimen preparation using proper chemicals and laboratory procedures.
- Document findings and discrepancies accurately.
