Description
Registered Nurse - Med Surg
Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Specialty: Orthopedics & Spine
- Unit Size: 36 beds (all private rooms)
- Staff: Approximately 75 total (day shift: 1 charge nurse, 8 RNs, 3 PCTs, 1 unit clerk; night shift: 1 charge nurse, 8 RNs, 3 PCTs)
- Patient Ratios: 5-6 patients per nurse
- Unit Focus: Fast-paced med/surg acuity unit specializing in orthopedic injuries, neurological conditions (including stroke and head injuries), and trauma
- Equipment: Traction devices, external fixators, halos, walkers, gait belts, bed alarms, continuous pulse oximetry, remote telemetry monitoring
- EMR System: Meditech
- Communication Technology: Use of mobile devices with secure team communication app to enhance coordination and patient privacy
- Facility Type: Busy Level 2 trauma center with high patient volume
Schedule & Shift Details
- Shift Times:
- Day: 06:45 - 19:15
- Night: 18:45 - 07:15
- Weekend Rotation: Every 3rd weekend (sometimes every other weekend if on leave of absence)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- De-escalation skills in a healthcare setting
Preferred Qualifications
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

- Wound care and dressing changes
- Care for patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions, including trauma cases
