Description

Job Opportunity: Cardiac Tele Registered Nurse

Location: Salisbury, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Weekend schedule: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
  • 36 hours per weekend
  • Target patient ratios: 1:5-6 (nurses must be comfortable managing up to 6 patients during surges)
  • Float requirement: Yes
  • Call requirement: Yes, frequency depends on patient census
  • Unit is a fast-paced cardiac and stroke unit with high patient turnover (78-90 patients per week)
  • Patient care includes stable pre/post pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, post uncomplicated peripheral vascular and cardiac interventions, and management of multiple cardiac drips (Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone, etc.)
  • Unit currently houses COVID-positive patients requiring opti-flow and BIPAP (only chronic use, no new BIPAP initiation)
  • Special equipment used: Telemetry, pulse oximetry, high flow O2 (stable), non-rebreather mask (palliative use only), Bipap (chronic use only)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
  • Proficient in EKG interpretation
  • Ability to manage patient care in a telemetry setting

Orientation & Training

  • 36 hours of unit orientation required, must be available every day during the first week
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight to balance staffing needs
  • Scrubs: Navy blue, white, or a mixture; jackets must match uniform material and color

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, sex offender search, and education verification required within specified timeframes
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (negative 10-panel urine drug screen)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and annual updates required
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required
  • Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption
  • TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and annual physical with TB questionnaire required
  • Annual compliance training and facility-specific education modules required
  • Confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment required

Additional Information

  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-turnover cardiac telemetry unit
  • Unit uses Pyxis medication system, EPIC Dimensions for documentation, and SBAR communication method
  • Weekend schedule only (Friday-Sunday) with 12-hour night shifts
  • Call and float responsibilities included
  • COVID-positive patient care experience preferred due to current unit census
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel and acute care candidates

This position is ideal for experienced cardiac telemetry RNs seeking a challenging travel assignment with weekend night shifts in a busy cardiac and stroke unit.
