Description
Registered Nurse – Med/Surg – Nights
Location: Lawton, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Contract (13 weeks)
Shift: 7 PM – 7 AM
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
Provide comprehensive nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care for a diverse population including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Collaborate with the healthcare team to maintain professional nursing standards and ensure patient safety.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Med/Surg experience within the last year (0 years of experience acceptable)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Key Responsibilities
- Perform head-to-toe assessments and reassessments for all patients, including pediatric and geriatric populations
- Implement age-specific care and pain management techniques
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and update individualized care plans addressing physiological, emotional, social, and developmental needs
- Administer medications safely following the five rights of medication administration
- Educate patients and families on care plans and pain management
- Document patient care accurately and maintain confidentiality
- Assist physicians with procedures and perform treatments within scope of practice
- Participate in staff education, orientation, and professional development activities
- Comply with all regulatory and organizational policies, including the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to lift and transfer adult and pediatric patients and equipment; must seek assistance for weights beyond individual capacity
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and stooping (over 75% of shift)
- Manual dexterity to initiate IVs, prepare and administer medications, and operate medical equipment
- Sensory abilities including touch, hearing, and vision sufficient for patient assessment and monitoring
- Strong reading, writing, speaking, and reasoning skills in English to communicate effectively and document care accurately
- Ability to work under stressful conditions and adapt to emergency situations
Working Conditions
- Exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, foul odors, and sharp objects
- May be required to work in confined spaces and assist with medical procedures such as casting, splinting, suturing, and lumbar punctures
Additional Information
- Orientation and annual in-service training on age-specific care required
- Participation in performance improvement and quality initiatives expected
- Must adhere to dress code and wear identification badge while on duty
