Electrophysiology Tech - Travel/Contract

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, either 3x12 hours or 4x10 hours (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM) with 2 days per week late case coverage
Hours per Week: 40


Job Description

  • Work in the Electrophysiology (EP) Lab performing cardiac electrophysiology studies, ablations (atrial flutter/fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia), cardioversion, device implants (pacemaker, defibrillator, Watchman, Aveir), device explants/lead extractions, internal loop recorder placement, and Head-Up-Tilt tests.
  • Use and monitor equipment including Philips and Siemens X-Ray machines, GE Micropacer, and preferred experience with 3D mapping systems (Biosense, Abbott/ESI), ultrasound devices, and laser lead machines.
  • Required skills include Cerner charting, hemodynamic monitoring, EKG settings and interpretation (inpatient and outpatient), and obtaining vitals with sinus node rhythm recognition.
  • Preferred experience with groin closure devices, peripherals, and laser lead extraction.
  • Preferred work settings include trauma and children’s hospitals.
  • Average daily caseload: approximately 18 cases.
  • Scrubs are provided.
  • No on-call, weekend, or floating requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as an Electrophysiology Technician, with experience within the last year.
  • Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Facility & Work Environment

  • Facility type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital, recognized as a top heart and vascular center nationally.
  • Total staffed beds: 748.
  • Charting systems: Cerner and GE Cardiolab.
  • Medication dispensing: Pyxis system.
  • Flu vaccine is mandatory for all employees.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 90 days prior to start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to and during employment.
  • Education verification for highest degree required by position.
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), including multiple substances.
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if history of TB, additional documentation required.
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Flu vaccine (or approved exemption), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (preferred within 10 years).
  • N95 fit test within 9 months of start and updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed).

Competency & Skills Verification

  • Required competency exams including medication/pharmacology and EKG/dysrhythmia exams with minimum passing scores.
  • Color blindness testing (online or in-person).
  • Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually.

References & Work History

  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least two years of experience within the last three years.
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.
  • For travel contracts, at least 1 prior travel assignment or 1 month of per diem experience required.

Additional Notes

  • Clear photo for badge required (face centered, no glare, solid background).
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules required prior to start.
  • Driver’s license required if driving is an essential job function.
  • No on-call or weekend shifts required.
