Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 twelve-hour shifts per week (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Total Hours: 36 hours per week
- May be required to float to other units
- Estimated patient ratios: Not specified
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery (L&D) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- IV start skills required
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system required
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association provider or instructor accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – American Heart Association provider or instructor accepted
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – American Heart Association only
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NRP certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
- IV insertion/starting skills
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if needed)
Background & Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if applicable
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required using specific Ohio code (3701.881) within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monthly monitoring required
- Education accreditation confirmation required for nursing degree from accredited programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Transcript or diploma verification required (official transcripts only)
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive; TB questionnaire required annually
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted with documentation
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination acceptable
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required, including education verification for nursing candidates
- Skills checklist required
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Annual completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts starting 11/7/24 and beyond
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit (check with recruiter)
Notes
- Parking permits available for purchase but at candidate’s expense
- Background check and fingerprinting processes are time-sensitive and must be completed prior to or shortly after start date
- Facility-specific forms and acknowledgments must be completed as part of onboarding
This position is ideal for experienced L&D nurses with strong EPIC skills seeking a travel contract in Ohio with a reputable medical center.
