Description
Travel Registered Nurse – Med/Surg and Step Down (SCU)
Location: New Ulm, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg and Step Down Unit)
- Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Locals: Not accepted within 100-mile radius
- Pending License: Accepted
- On-call: Not required
- Guaranteed Hours: Subject to cancellation of up to 3 shifts without penalty
- Facility Type: Critical Access Facility, Level 4 Trauma Center
- Total Staffed Beds: 19
- Charting System: Epic (Excellian)
- Parking: Free in any unrestricted space

Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Minnesota
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or equivalent Med/Surg and Step Down experience
- PCU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification

- Central Line Insertion
- Cardioversion

- Chest Tube Insertion
Equipment Experience
- NICOM
- Nihon Kohden monitors
- Heated High Flow (Airvo)

Background & Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 1 year (7-year standard MN statewide search)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 1 year
- MN DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start (no pending fingerprints allowed)
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Adult Tdap (no declinations accepted without approved exemption)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 12 months or acceptable history)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B: Positive IGG titer, proof of series, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive IGG titer or 2 vaccines required (no exemptions)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-26 season (declinations accepted)
- Respiratory safety clearance (RespSafety virtual questionnaire) required prior to start
- Drug testing: 9-panel within 1 year (not required for client clearance)
Orientation & Facility Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific preorientation online modules within 72 hours of login (3-9 hours depending on specialty)
- Passport-style badge photo required within 48 hours of contract signing
- Uniform: Navy blue scrubs; EMTs wear teal (not applicable here)
- Skills checklist required annually
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be able to work within a 100-mile radius (locals not accepted)
- Candidates ideally should not have more than 5 days of return-to-office restrictions
- References are not required for client clearance but are required for Per Diem candidates
- Candidates must be prepared to complete all required documentation and clearances promptly to avoid delays
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift role in a critical access, level 4 trauma center setting.
