Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry

Location

  • Winston Salem, North Carolina

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Shift & Hours

  • 12-hour day shifts (6:45 AM to 7:15 PM)
  • 36 hours per week
  • Must work every other weekend
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg and Telemetry areas, including possible COVID care units

Patient Population & Unit Details

  • Primarily stroke patients, neurosurgery, and other neurological diagnoses (e.g., epilepsy, subdural hematomas)
  • 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with optional training for travelers
  • Unit census approximately 42 patients, 43 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
  • At least 2 or more completed travel nursing assignments
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Proficient in IV start
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias

Orientation & Training

  • 36 hours unit orientation required
  • Must complete facility-specific education modules and compliance training prior to start
  • Navy scrubs required

Scheduling & Attendance Policies

  • No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to contract cancellation
  • If weekend shifts are missed, they must be made up either the same week or at the end of the contract
  • Block scheduling is not guaranteed

Required Health & Compliance Documents

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive with appropriate documentation)
  • Up-to-date immunizations including measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, and seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption
  • Drug screening within 6 months of start
  • Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
  • Physical exam (as per travel agency standards)
  • Completion of facility-specific safety and confidentiality agreements
  • Completion of medication safety training and other required facility education modules

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete color blindness testing within 1 year prior to start
  • Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exams as required
  • Must complete facility’s Epic electronic health record training or test-out option if eligible
  • Photo for badge required immediately after contract signing (passport-style, white background, business attire)

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work with a specialized neurological patient population in a dynamic Med/Surg/Telemetry environment. Candidates must be experienced travel nurses with strong clinical skills and flexibility to float across related units.
