Description
Travel Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Night shift: 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Unit: Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCC) caring for neuro, medical, surgical, and trauma ICU patients
- Staffing ratio: 1 nurse to 2-3 patients
- Must be flexible to work 50% of weekends during the contract
- May be required to float to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU units as needed
- Teaching facility: travel nurses must be willing to precept or have students shadow them
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Indiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 3 years of Neuro ICU experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Certifications:
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Skills:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Intracranial pressure (ICP) management
- Must be able to work night shifts and meet weekend requirements
- Locals are not accepted for this travel position
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year work/living history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap strongly recommended
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific competency exam
- Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment with supervisory titles
- Current employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days
Job Expectations
- Call-in shifts must be made up during the pay period or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status
- May be required to cover charge nurse responsibilities with provided training
- Must complete facility-specific orientation, compliance, confidentiality, and safety training prior to start
- Must complete mandatory online modules prior to orientation (22 modules including Environment of Care, HIPAA, Infection Prevention, etc.)
- Must complete all required facility-specific documentation and forms in a timely manner
Notes
- Indiana RNs will not be allowed to work at this facility after 11/30/24 except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
- On-site PAPR respirator use is automatically approved at this facility; no prior approval needed
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro ICU travel nurses comfortable with night shifts, weekend work, and working in a high-acuity teaching hospital environment.
