Facility Overview
- Level III Trauma Center
- Level II NICU
- Primary Stroke Center
- 167 beds
- Imaging rooms: 4 total (2 in department, 1 in Emergency Department, 1 in Breast Imaging)
- Department staffed 24/7
Patient Population
- Inpatient and outpatient
- Mostly adults, very few pediatric patients
- Exam types include OB, pelvic, vascular, ABIs, reflux studies, venous insufficiencies with mapping, carotids, small parts
- Musculoskeletal exams of small bones, neonatal heads, prostate, and breast exams are not required
Caseload
- 8-10 patients per shift
Required Licensure and Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography)
- OB Certification required if working overnight shifts
Requirements / Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of ultrasound technologist experience within the last year
- Experience as an Ob/Gyn Sonographer
- Experience as a Vascular Sonographer
- Current BLS certification
- ARDMS certification
- OB Certification
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system
- Experience with McKesson PACS system
Skills and Preferences
- Experience with the patient types and exam types listed above (excluding non-required exams)
- EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) experience preferred
Shift and Scheduling Details
- Rotating shifts: day, mid, or night shifts possible
- Shift lengths: 8, 9, or 10 hours on day/mid shifts; 12-hour shifts on overnight or weekend shifts
- Weekend rotation: 1 weekend per contract (some assignments may require every weekend)
- Holiday coverage: on call for 1 holiday per contract
- No on-call required outside holiday coverage
- Schedule created weeks in advance by Lead Tech; block scheduling may or may not be accommodated
- 36 hours per week
Orientation
- 1 week orientation with preceptor
Support and Team
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- Hospitalist coverage 24/7
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) support
- Radiologist on-site during the day; remote coverage at night
- Transporter available during the day only
- Other ultrasound techs present during the day; solo coverage overnight
- Management and Lead Tech support
Technology and Equipment
- EMR: EPIC (preferred)
- PACS: McKesson
- Equipment: GE ultrasound machines (experience with GE not required)
Additional Information
- Floating: may perform portable ultrasounds on the floor
- Scrub color: any solid color allowed
- Free parking available on campus
