Medical Lab Technician (Travel/Contract)

Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Specialty: Laboratory
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evening (1:00 PM – 9:30 PM), 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (40 hours/week)
Schedule Notes: Rotating weekends; no local candidates accepted


Job Description

  • Perform laboratory testing and procedures as a Medical Lab Technician
  • Work primarily on the Midcity campus

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Medical Lab Technician license in Louisiana
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical Lab Technician experience
  • Medical Lab Technician experience within the last year

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA provider, instructor, or RQI acceptable
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on assignment (AHA provider, instructor, or RQI acceptable)
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as required by specialty

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually, signed by a physician
  • Annual respirator fit testing (Fit Mask) including mask size
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year, with appropriate follow-up for converters or BCG vaccinated workers
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
  • 12-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, MDMA, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP, tricyclic antidepressants)
  • Influenza and COVID-19 vaccination exemptions allowed for medical or religious reasons with proper documentation

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete facility-specific orientation and training, including Healthstream courses and glucose testing return demonstration before performing certain tests
  • System access and confidentiality agreement must be signed prior to start
  • Flu vaccination is not required for employment but documentation or declination form should be obtained for records

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Lab Technicians with prior travel assignments looking for a 13-week evening contract in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
