Description

Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery (Travel)

Location: San Antonio, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend


Job Summary

  • Provide independent nursing care in a similar clinical setting, managing routine and complex patient needs.
  • Deliver care aligned with nursing processes: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
  • Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Make appropriate assignments and delegate tasks to other care providers as needed.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Current certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) or completion of an AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) course

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days.
  • New hires receive preceptorship by a trained staff member.
  • Completion of organizational entry competency validation and Perinatal Department-specific competency validation required.
  • Annual competency verification must be completed.

Patient Ratio

  • Typically 1:1 or 1:2, except when assigned to OB Emergency Department.

Additional Notes

  • This position requires working every third weekend.
  • The role involves leadership expectations consistent with nursing competencies.
