Respiratory Therapist - Critical Care

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Provide respiratory therapy coverage for all adult inpatient units and the Emergency Department (ED).
• Expected to cover pediatric patients while working in the ED.
• Perform arterial blood gases (ABGs) and capillary blood gases (CBGs) in intensive care units.
• Assist with intubation; may place laryngeal airway (King airway) during code blue situations.
• Provide overnight coverage for the EKG department as needed.

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts: Night shift from 1830 to 0700.
• Work 3 shifts per week (36 hours).
• Every third weekend required.
• Every other holiday required.
• Occasional off-shift call from 1900 to 0400 on a volunteer basis; call response time is 1 hour.
• Scheduling is done on a 6-week block basis when possible.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience.
• Critical care experience required.
• Experience in trauma level 2 or 3 settings required.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential via NBRC.
• Current Wisconsin Respiratory Therapist license (note: license processing may take 6 to 8 weeks).
• Certifications required: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), PALS.
• Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers and travel duos are accepted.

Clinical Environment & Support

• Patients: Adult units, ED, and pediatric patients in ED.
• Hospitalists available for medical/surgical units; intensivists available 24/7 in ICUs.
• Respiratory therapy leadership includes system director, on-site manager, supervisor, and lead RT for each shift.
• Department orientation includes leadership introduction and 3-4 days of floor orientation.

Equipment Used

• Ventilators: Servo U, Servo I, PB840 (being replaced by Servo U), Hamilton T1.
• Non-invasive ventilation: Bipap/CPAP (V-60, V-30, Resmeds).
• High flow oxygen: Vapotherm.
• Additional devices: INOmax Plus, Oscillators, Cough assist, Volara.

Additional Information

• Scrub color is flexible; good supportive footwear is encouraged.
• Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility.
• Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to submission.
