Respiratory Therapist - Contract Position

Job Details

• Employment Type: Contractor
• Contract Length: 16 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (either 5:00 AM–5:00 PM or 5:00 PM–5:00 AM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Rotation: Every 3rd weekend
• Holiday Expectations: 1 summer holiday, 1 winter holiday
• Schedule Cycle: 8 weeks at a time, schedule provided 3 weeks in advance
• On Call: No call required
• Time Off: Requests up to 7 days can be approved

Work Environment

• Treatment areas include:

  • ICU (CCU) stepdown/ICU combined with 2-5 ventilated patients daily between ED and ICU
  • Inpatient cardiac unit (no open heart surgeries)
  • Medical-surgical units
  • Inpatient behavioral health unit
  • Floating throughout the hospital to all units
• Very busy Emergency Department with a high pediatric population; pediatric patients may be transferred out or boarded in ED if needed
• Patient ratio: 1:1

• COVID-19
• COPD
• Alcohol detoxification (ETOH detox)
• Overdose patients
• ARDS
• Pneumonia
• Influenza
• Congestive heart failure (CHF)
• Lung cancer
• Stroke
• RSV
• Tracheostomy patients, including those on ventilators

Required Licensure & Certifications

• Current Respiratory Therapist license (RRT highly preferred; CRT accepted)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred but not required; without NRP, no floating to NICU/Pediatrics

Required Skills

• Arterial blood gas (ABG) punctures
• Airway and ventilator management
• Administration of inhaled medications (MDI and nebulizer)
• Code blue response
• EKG interpretation (up to 10 per shift required)
• Comfort with pediatric and NICU patients preferred for floating

Support & Staffing

• Night shifts staffed with 2 respiratory therapists
• Day shifts staffed with 3 respiratory therapists
• Charge therapist assigned every shift, possibly with lighter assignments if able
• Respiratory therapist educator available
• Manager on site during day shifts

Technology & Equipment

• Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC
• Ventilators and respiratory equipment:

  • Hamilton C1 (noninvasive, invasive, and high flow)
  • Airvo (high flow)
  • Servo-U ventilators for all vented patients

Orientation

• Duration: 2-3 days up to 1 week depending on comfort level

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of respiratory therapy experience required
• First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)
