Description
Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location
- Baltimore, Maryland
Contract Details
- Length: 16 weeks
- Start Date: May 18, 2026
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holidays: Required as scheduled
- Floating: Required within specialty and to lower acuity units as needed
- On-call: Not required
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Patient Age Group: Adults and Geriatrics
- Unit Size: 15 beds, average daily census ~10
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1, up to 1:3 with stable, lower acuity patients
- Common Diagnoses: Cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias (including heart blocks), myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, advanced therapy workups (LVAD, heart transplants), mechanical support devices (IABP, Impella), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hypertensive urgency/emergency
Clinical Responsibilities & Procedures
- Bedside insertion of central lines and arterial lines
- Bronchoscopy assistance
- Chest tube insertion
- Swan-Ganz/PA catheter insertion
- Targeted temperature management
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
- Use of specialized equipment: Impella, VAD, IABP, CRRT, ventilators, cooling devices, continuous cardiac output monitors
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience
- CVICU experience within the last year
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Uniform
- Scrub color: Navy blue (pink for trauma assignments; pediatric staff may wear child-friendly tops with navy pants)
- Undershirt: White short sleeve or navy long sleeve (pink if wearing pink scrubs)
- Business casual dress code applies for certain departments (no jeans, no open-toe shoes, no sleeveless tops, no shorts)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- I9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, nationwide and county searches, sex offender registry, OFAC, education verification
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually
- Immunizations or positive titers for: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (declination accepted only for low/equivocal titer)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap as applicable
- Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel plus Fentanyl) within 30 days prior to start
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption for the 2025-26 season (declinations not accepted)
- COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start
- Competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, age-specific)
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, badge photo, dress code review, and job description acknowledgment
- Portfolio Epic training test out form may be applicable depending on prior Epic experience
Additional Notes
- Candidates must sign all required facility-specific agreements prior to start
- Some specialty questionnaires (e.g., latex allergy) must be completed regardless of physical exam results
- Candidates may be required to complete crisis prevention training (CPI)
- All documentation must be current and uploaded according to facility compliance timelines
