Description

Operating Room Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule

  • Day shift: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM (4x10 hour shifts), Monday-Friday with rotating day off
  • Call required

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • Experience required in Orthopedics, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular, and Urology
  • Travel experience preferred (not mandatory)
  • Charting experience with Epic electronic health records system

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Da Vinci robotic surgery systems, endovascular procedures, and ophthalmology is a bonus

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Texas (primary source verification required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, as applicable
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Chemotherapy certification, Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB), NIH Stroke Certification, and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certifications as applicable

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (specific mask types required by location)
  • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; if positive, additional documentation required
  • Required immunizations or positive titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Varicella
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)

Background & Documentation

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Education verification of highest level completed
  • Work history verification for the past 7 years
  • Driver’s license or state ID required
  • I-9 and E-Verify compliance required
  • Photo for badge required
  • Fingerprinting required for New Mexico placements only (not applicable here)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates residing in certain Texas counties are not eligible for this travel contract (counties include Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris)
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
  • References and employment application required internally but not mandatory for clearance

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with a strong background in multiple surgical specialties, comfortable with Epic charting, and willing to work a day shift with call responsibilities in a travel contract setting.


Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience
  • Operating Room experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in Orthopedics
  • Experience in Neurology
  • Experience in Vascular Surgery
  • Experience in Urology
