Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery (L&D) (Days)
Location: West Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work primarily in Labor & Delivery, Post Partum, and Mother Baby units.
- Patient types include c-sections, vaginal deliveries, and triage.
- Patient ratios typically 1:3-4 couplets.
- Manage drips such as magnesium, insulin, and pitocin.
- Float across multiple campuses within the region.
- Orientation required (dates provided by employer).
- Must work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
- EMR system used: EPIC.
- Hospital-provided scrubs.
- Night shift not indicated; this is a day shift position.
Required Qualifications
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license valid at time of submission.
- Minimum 24 months of recent experience in Labor & Delivery, Post Partum, and Mother Baby care.
- Experience with c-section and vaginal deliveries including triage required.
- Experience in Post Partum and mother-baby care required.
- Must have completed at least one prior travel nursing assignment within the last 12 months (no first-time travelers).
- Intermediate or Advanced EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) / AWHONN certification accepted.
- Current certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) from AHA or ARC/Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) from AHA
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN certification
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Skills checklist specific to Labor & Delivery, Post Partum, Mother Baby discipline required.
- Professional references or performance evaluations from the last 24 months preferred.
Work Conditions & Additional Information
- New graduate orientation (NBO) is 16 hours.
- Overtime and holiday pay multipliers apply.
- Call back and on-call pay available.
- Charge/preceptor pay available.
- Typical workweek: 36-40 hours with overtime billable after 40 hours.
- Unit size: 24 beds, 2 operating rooms.

- Candidates must be within a 50-mile radius of the facility.
- Employee separation policy restricts certain past employees from travel assignments in this market.
- Prior travel experience is mandatory; no first-time travelers accepted.
- Must be willing to float across multiple campuses.
- Must be available to work specified summer holidays unless unit is closed.
