Description
Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Day/Night rotation every other weekend
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Rotation Frequency: Every 4 weeks (subject to unit needs)
- On-Call: Required
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:1 to 1:2
- Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proficient in telemetry monitoring
- Experience with ventilator management
- Skilled in intracranial pressure monitoring
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Background and Compliance Checks
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
- Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
Required Health and Immunization Documents
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tdap vaccination (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear a mask
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Required Competencies and Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)
Licensing and Verification
- Registered Nurse license verification required within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for RN license
- Transcript or diploma verification from accredited nursing program required
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership role (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
- Skills checklist required
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Annual review and acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies (for new contracts)
