Registered Nurse - Bone Marrow

Unit Profile
- Unit: Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)
- Number of beds: 40 total (20 beds per floor)
- Patient ratios: Target 1:3, stretch 1:4 (dependent on staffing)
- Unit staffing: Unit secretaries Monday-Friday 7 AM-3 PM; 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) in the AM, 1 PCT in the PM
- Equipment: Bedside monitors mounted on walls, bedside computers, lift assist devices
- Documentation system: Meditech
- Scheduling: Weekend rotation required
- Floating policy: Travelers float first
- Patient experience: Bedside shift report, safety rounds, team management, No Pass Zone policy
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 1 year of Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) or transplant experience within the last year
- Oncology experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) experience preferred
- Ability to read telemetry and monitor simple titration of drips preferred
- Competent to administer chemotherapy
- Excellent assessment skills
Procedures and Treatments
- Infrequent bone marrow biopsies performed on unit
- Perform autologous and allogeneic transplants including related, unrelated, haplo-match, and mismatch donors
- CAR-T therapies administered
Work Environment and Culture
- Dress code: Royal blue scrubs required
- Five-time accreditation by FACT (Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy)
- Team known for excellent teamwork and welcoming attitude toward floats and contract employees
