Description
Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery
Location: El Paso, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Call Requirement: 1 call day per week
Start Date: June 1st only

- Staffing: 52 total staff
- Day Shift: 1 charge RN, 1 OBED RN, 4 RNs, 2 OB techs, 1 unit clerk
- Night Shift: 1 charge RN, 1 OBED RN, 4 RNs, 1 OB tech, 1 unit clerk
- Patient Ratios:
- Labor: 2:1
- Antepartum: 4:1
- Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU): 2:1
- Postpartum (PP): 6:1
- Equipment: GE fetal monitoring, Panda warmer, Hillroom labor beds
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR): CPN and Meditech
- Permanent Positions Available: No
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) certification
Typical Procedures Performed
- Cesarean section (C-section)
- Bilateral tubal ligation (BTL)
- Cerclage
- Dilation and curettage (D&C)
- Labor inductions
- Use of mechanical dilators (Dilapan and cervical balloon)
- Outpatient services such as Rhogam administration, iron infusion, antenatal steroids, and OB emergency department care
Schedule and Call Details
- Call required twice per schedule
- Weekends: Two weekends per schedule (AM shifts on Saturday and Sunday; PM shifts on Friday and Saturday)
- Hours per week: Approximately 36 hours
Unit Policies and Protocols
- Oxytocin protocol
- Induction of labor guidelines
- Care guidelines for maternal hemorrhage and severe hypertensive/preeclampsia patients
- Magnesium sulfate administration
- Maternal Early Warning System (MEWS)
- Glucose management for diabetic obstetric patients
Work Environment and Culture
- Maternal Level III designation
- Mother-friendly facility
- Team-oriented with emphasis on open-mindedness and positivity
- Dress code: Galaxy blue scrubs with a specific patch; closed-toe shoes required
