Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR)
Location: Austin, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Backfill position in the Operating Room (OR) for a 13-week travel contract
- Schedule: Saturday through Monday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- No on-call required
- Weekend and Monday shifts included
- Approximately 36 hours per week
Unit Information
- Operating Room with 22 OR suites
- Not a trauma hospital
- Staff: About 80 total, including RNs and Certified Surgical Technicians (CSTs)
- Patient ratio: 1:1
- One team in-house 24/7 for night shift coverage
- Equipment includes robotics and specialties such as cardiac, vascular, neuro, spine, oncology, orthopedics, plastics, urology, and gynecology
- Electronic Medical Record system: Meditech
- Permanent positions available on the unit
Typical Procedures
- Appendectomies (Appy’s)
- Cholecystectomies (Chole’s)
- Spine fusions
- Total joint replacements
- Craniotomies
- Mastectomies
- DIEP flaps
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in multiple service lines including ortho, neuro, general surgery, and robotic surgery
Work Environment & Culture
- Team-oriented, flexible, self-directed, and positive attitude preferred
- Low staff turnover with successful transitions of contract staff to permanent roles
- Supportive team environment with recognition programs and departmental awards
- Scrubs provided; closed-toe, non-slip, heeled shoes required
Shift & Call Details
- Call requirements: 4 to 5 shifts and 4 to 5 late shifts per 6-week period minimum
- Weekend shifts available
