Registered Nurse (Med Surg) - Illinois

Job Details

• Location: Dixon, Illinois (small town about 2 hours west of Chicago)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit: Medical-Surgical (Med Surg)
• Beds: 23 beds on 4th floor, 14 beds on 3rd floor
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Patient Ratios: Ideal 1:5, can go up to 1:7
• Patient Care Tech (PCT) Ratio: 1:8
• Common Diagnoses: NSTEMI, COPD, Pneumonia, Sepsis, Acute Kidney Injury
• Telemetry: Yes, monitored by MTs; RNs sign off on strips during shift
• Floating: Possible to ICU, ER, or Behavioral Health Care if experienced; otherwise no floating outside Med Surg
• Call/Standby: No on-call; low census is rare
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Typically every other weekend and holiday
• Orientation: 1 shift of department-specific orientation with a detailed binder provided
• Dress Code: Any scrub color allowed; close-toed shoes and good hygiene required

Required Qualifications

• License: Active Illinois RN license required (or application process initiated)
• Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred due to potential pediatric patients
• Experience: Minimum 1 year Med Surg nursing experience
• Drug Screening: Must pass a negative drug screen (drug-free campus policy)

Additional Notes

• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor roles are present on the unit
• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Respiratory Therapy equipment includes home units only; Heated High Flow is the highest level available
• Local clinicians within 50 miles may have a local rate adjustment
• Orientation hours (12 hours) are non-billable and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
• Call-off policy allows up to 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
