Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location
- Potsdam, New York
Employment Type
- Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Day shift, 3 shifts per week
- 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
- Total 36 hours per week
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- ACLS, BLS, and NRP certifications
- Experience in Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department settings
- Proficient with Medihaler, trach collar, and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Skilled in troubleshooting high pressure alarms
Skills and Competencies
- Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department experience
- Proficient in airway management: extubation, nasal and oral airway placement and suctioning, tracheostomy care and suctioning
- Pulmonary hygiene and sputum specimen collection
- Medication administration including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Inhaled steroids, Isuprel, Lidocaine, Perforomist, Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, Spiriva, Terbutaline Sulfate, Tobramycin, Xopenex
- Use of aerosol set up mask/trach, Medihaler, Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI), hand held nebulizers, T-piece, trach collar, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP, CPAP
- Troubleshooting high pressure alarms and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
- Ability to perform occasional EKGs after hours
- Comfortable providing care to COVID-19 patients
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing care environments
Unit and Patient Population
- 24/7 in-house Respiratory Therapy department
- Care areas include 6-bed ICU, Emergency Room, Medical/Surgical, Pediatrics, and low volume newborn stabilization
- Primarily adult patients, but must be comfortable with pediatric and newborn stabilization prior to transport
- Routine medication delivery through invasive and noninvasive ventilator management
Preferred Equipment Experience
- Servo I ventilator
- LTV ventilator
- Hamilton T1 ventilator
Orientation
- Includes interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
Uniform
- Scrubs of any color allowed
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- 7-year criminal background check including all aliases and multiple registry checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification for degree related to specialty
- Online license verification for NY State license within 30 days of start
- Harassment prevention training certificate (New York, annual)
- Medication and specialty competency exams as required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (PAPR education if fit test failed)
- Immunizations and titers: Tdap (within 10 years), TB testing (negative within 1 year or chest X-ray if positive), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (specific panels required)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
- Review of patient confidentiality, sexual harassment prevention, patient experience training, and other facility-specific policies prior to start
- Completion of required modules before start date

- 2 professional references required
- Employment application and 7-year work history verification required
- Annual skills checklist update required
