Description

Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery / OB & Med-Surg

Location: Holdrege, Nebraska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 5:45 PM – 6:00 AM

  • 2 out of 3 weekends required
  • Block scheduling available
  • 3 shift call off with no charge based on patient census
    Hours per Week: 36

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care for patients of all ages, primarily in Labor and Delivery as well as Obstetrics and Medical-Surgical units. The role involves assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care under physician supervision, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and policies.


Essential Functions

  • Assess physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients.
  • Document symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient condition.
  • Develop, implement, and revise formal plans of care using the nursing process.
  • Administer medications following the "Five Rights of Medication Administration."
  • Educate patients and families with age-appropriate information.
  • Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients, families, and visitors.
  • Prioritize daily assignments to optimize patient care.
  • Demonstrate annual competency in assigned work areas.
  • Maintain patient and employee confidentiality.
  • Comply with professional code of conduct.

Charge Nurse Responsibilities (if applicable):

  • Assign staff based on patient needs and staff skill levels.
  • Coach staff in problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Lead or participate in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Recognize and respond immediately to life-threatening patient situations.
  • Foster cooperative relationships with physicians and staff.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent use of hands and arms; talking and hearing required.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing.
  • Frequent lifting/moving up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting/moving over 100 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock risk.
  • Occasional exposure to explosive, toxic, or caustic chemicals.
  • Moderate noise level.
  • Classified as Risk Level I for exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications in:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Experience in Charge Nurse roles.
