Description

Registered Nurse (MedSurg) - Travel Assignment

Location: Franklin, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Medical-Surgical nurse needed for a 13-week travel assignment in a mid-size hospital (34 beds).
  • Patient population includes diagnoses such as pneumonia (PNA), COPD, CHF, orthopedic cases (shoulders, hips, knees), appendectomy, cholecystectomy, diverticulitis, bowel resection, and pancreatitis.
  • Work shifts are 12 hours: Days (6:00 AM – 6:30 PM) with a 36-hour workweek.
  • Weekend rotation required: approximately 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
  • Holiday rotation based on calendar.
  • Self-scheduling available depending on census and staffing.
  • Floating within MedSurg scope of practice may be required.
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.

Patient Care & Unit Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • Day shift: 1 nurse to 5 patients
    • Night shift: 1 nurse to 6 patients
  • Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with a max ratio of 1:12 on both shifts.
  • Remote telemetry monitoring available; MedSurg nurses are not responsible for strip interpretation.
  • Chronic BiPAP and CPAP equipment used on unit.
  • Heparin drips administered per protocol; RNs are not required to titrate drips.
  • Charge nurse available on both shifts; house supervisor available on nights.

Orientation & Training

  • Unit-specific orientation includes:
    • 1 shift of clinical nursing education
    • 2 shifts on the unit with a preceptor
    • 3 additional 12-hour shifts

Required Certifications & Skills

  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience in MedSurg, PCU, Telemetry, or CCU required.

Additional Information

  • Call or standby may be required if a shift is cancelled, with a 45-minute return time after notification.
  • No blocked scheduling requests accepted.

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license valid in Indiana.
  • Minimum experience: MedSurg or related acute care nursing experience (PCU, Telemetry, or CCU).
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
