Respiratory Therapist (Certified Respiratory Therapist) - Night Shift

Job Summary

Perform respiratory care treatments and evaluations according to physician orders and protocols. Educate patients with cardiopulmonary disabilities, injuries, or diseases. Manage respiratory equipment, conduct therapeutic procedures, and monitor patient responses. Provide care within the established scope of practice for Respiratory Therapists. May perform adult endotracheal intubation in code blue situations after training and competency verification.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble, inspect, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment.
• Assess patient cardiopulmonary status and collect clinical information.
• Perform therapeutic procedures to maintain airway and ventilation, including care of artificial airways and secretion removal.
• Evaluate and modify respiratory care plans based on patient response.
• Explain care plans and therapy goals to patients and maintain communication records.
• Initiate or modify respiratory care techniques in emergencies.
• Perform procedures listed in general and critical care competency checklists and interpret results.
• Adhere to infection control policies to prevent nosocomial infections.
• Serve as a resource for complex respiratory care cases and provide in-service education.
• Review patient data and recommend diagnostic procedures as appropriate.
• Ensure cleanliness and proper selection of respiratory equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois Respiratory Care License.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
• Minimum 2 years of critical care experience.
• Experience in Adult Critical Care, Emergency Department, Neonatal/Pediatrics, and with all patient populations.
• Cerner EMR experience.
• Current American Heart Association certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• Active NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• Active NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care) certification.
• Work history and skills checklist current to within 1 year, pertinent to Respiratory Therapy.
• Two supervisory reference forms with employment dates.

Additional Requirements

• Must be located outside a 50-mile radius from the facility (local candidates within 50 miles are not eligible).
• Applicants who were direct employees within the last 2 years are not eligible.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
