Description

Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST) - Travel/Contract

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Specialty: Surgical Services
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Strong proficiency required in Orthopedic (total joints), Neurosurgery, and General Surgery skills.
  • Experience with robotic surgery highly preferred.
  • Exposure to big belly/crani/ortho trauma cases is highly preferred.
  • Work schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (11:00 AM - 11:00 PM), plus call rotation, occasional weekends, and holidays.
  • Weekend rotation and call rotation shared with staff.
  • Must work at least one holiday during the 13-week contract.
  • First-time travelers accepted; no local candidates accepted due to radius restrictions.

Unit Details

  • Level I trauma OR with 25 OR suites, 24/7 on-site nursing coverage.
  • Patient population includes neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, and geriatrics.
  • Surgical services include general, orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastics, gynecology, oncology, robotic, ENT, ophthalmology, pediatrics, and sports medicine.
  • Special equipment used: ROSA, Si and Xi daVinci robots, Stealth, O-Arm, HIPEC.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Surgical Technologist license in Virginia.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Certification accepted: NBSTSA or NCCT.
  • BLS certification required.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • I-9 or attestation.
  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID with an address more than 100 miles from the facility (radius rule).
  • E-Verify or attestation.
  • 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, completed within 1 year of start.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals.
  • Education verification of highest earned degree.
  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Fit test within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually.
  • Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
  • TB questionnaire required for all candidates.
  • Professional photo for badge.
  • Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start.
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required before start.
  • Skills checklist updated annually.
  • Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted).
  • Complete employment application/resume required.

Additional Notes

  • Call-off policy allows 1 shift off per 2 weeks.
  • Candidates must submit all scheduling requests with their application.
  • Candidates must review and acknowledge the contract staff orientation manual prior to start.
  • Radiation badges for new candidates are not provided; existing badge holders will continue to receive badges until assignment ends.
  • Flu vaccination is not mandatory but those declining must wear masks during flu season and sign a declination form.

Shift Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM
  • Hours per week: 36 hours

This position is ideal for Certified OR Techs with strong orthopedic, neurosurgery, and general surgery experience seeking a travel contract in a Level I trauma center environment with advanced surgical technology.
