Description

Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Float Nurse

Location: Huntington, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Facility Overview

  • Short Term Acute Care hospital
  • Major Teaching Hospital, Level II Trauma Center
  • Total Staffed Beds: 330
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Free parking available for travelers (lot and garage)
  • Scrub color: Black scrubs or facility T-shirt; surgery scrubs provided when reporting to Surgery

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only) required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Experience

  • 1 year of RN experience required
  • First-time travelers welcome (prior travel experience NOT required)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (must include specific drug panels)
  • Immunizations and titers required or documentation of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis A, B, and C
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (QGold or T-Spot within 6 months, updated annually)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required by October 31 through April 30 (medical/religious exemptions require approval)
  • COVID-19 seasonal vaccine required; initial series preferred; declination form required if opting out
  • Onsite N95 fit testing required (male candidates must be clean-shaven)

Background and Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Background check within 30 days of start; international background check if lived/worked abroad
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation, annual education, confidentiality agreement, and IT access forms prior to start
  • Facility assigns mandatory HealthStream modules to be completed within 1 week of start

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must create an account for timekeeping prior to start
  • Religious and medical exemptions for flu and COVID vaccines must be approved by the facility before starting
  • Facility-specific forms for vaccine declinations and exemptions must be submitted if applicable

This position offers a traveler-friendly environment with supportive onboarding and free parking. Night shift nurses with at least 1 year of experience and required certifications are encouraged to apply.
