Description
Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Position Details
- Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: Expected to float within ICU community including CVICU, Med/Surg ICU, and Neuro ICU
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals: Not accepted within 100-mile radius
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Minnesota
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Licensure
- Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Minnesota or compact state license accepted.
- Pending licenses accepted with proper documentation.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 1 year required (7-year standard MN statewide search)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year
- MN DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance mandatory before start (no pending fingerprints allowed)
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Adult Tdap (no declinations accepted without exemption approval)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (documentation must be current)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer required; no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B (proof of immunity or vaccination series)
- Varicella (proof of immunity or vaccination series; no exemptions)
- Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted)
- OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start for fit testing
- Drug testing within 1 year (9-panel acceptable)
Orientation & Training
- Completion of facility-specific online preorientation modules required within 72 hours of assignment acceptance (3-9 hours depending on specialty)
- Modules must be completed before clearance to start
- Uniform guidelines apply; EMTs wear teal scrubs, RNs navy blue
Additional Information
- Facility is a Magnet, Teaching, Level III Trauma Short Term Acute Care hospital with 672 staffed beds
- Charting system: Excellian/Epic
- Parking available at a flat rate of $0.55/hour
- Photo for badge (passport style) required within 48 hours of contract signing
Summary
This CVICU RN travel contract position requires a minimum of 2 years CVICU experience with advanced critical care skills including PA catheter management, mechanical circulatory support devices, and CRRT. Night shifts with every other weekend coverage are required. Candidates must be fully certified in ACLS and BLS and complete all required health screenings and background checks prior to start. Floating within ICU units is expected. Pending licenses are accepted, but first-time travelers are not.
