Description
Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Canton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Must have a minimum of 18 months recent Emergency Department (ED) experience in a permanent role prior to travel assignment.
- Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license at the time of application.
- Must have current certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC.
- Epic electronic health record experience is required.
- One recent professional reference from a manager, assistant nurse manager, supervisor, or director in the specialty is required for submission.
- Must successfully pass ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate competency tests during orientation.
- Required to work at least every other holiday during the assignment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1.5 years of recent Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license) must be carried on assignment.
- Background check including a 7-year FCRA-compliant search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) completed within 12 months and updated annually. Fingerprinting must be done within 48 hours of contract signing.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months and updated annually.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
- Seasonal flu vaccination (no declinations accepted) for current season
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start date.
Orientation & Testing
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
- Baseline competency exams during orientation: medication administration (SafeMedicate) with a 90% passing score and ECG interpretation with an 80% passing score. Retakes and remediation provided if needed.
- Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at the same health system may be exempt from some orientation testing.
References & Work History
- Two professional references required from employment within the last year, from a manager, assistant nurse manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director.
- Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history, including 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting relevant to the assignment.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete fingerprinting at the facility in addition to agency fingerprinting.
- Candidates must be aware that modules and onboarding processes can take multiple days and should be prioritized.
- Name on all documents (license, ID, work order) must match legal name; name changes must be updated accordingly.
- Candidates must be prepared to comply with all health and safety requirements, including immunizations and fit testing, with no exceptions for declinations unless approved medical or religious exemptions are submitted and approved.
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses with strong clinical skills, current certifications, and Epic experience, seeking a travel contract in Ohio with a reputable healthcare facility.
