Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Provide respiratory care for both adult and pediatric patients.
  • Float between Pediatric ICU (PICU), Emergency Department (ED), and Adult Critical Care units; additional float units possible based on skill set and hospital needs.
  • Perform procedures including blood gas analysis, ventilator/BiPAP/High flow initiation and management, code response, in-house transport, medication administration, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Use equipment such as Servo I ventilators and V60 BiPAP machines.
  • Charting is done using EPIC electronic medical records system.
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Friday/Saturday).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 1.5 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, with experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID and driver's license required within 48 hours of contract signing.
  • Employment eligibility verification (E-Verify) required.
  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches.
  • Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months, confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol; annual testing required for respiratory therapy staff.
  • Immunization and immunity documentation required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer required)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.
  • Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start; must be updated annually.
  • Color vision testing required if job tasks involve color discrimination.
  • Completion of facility-specific education and attestations, including annual education sign-off and floating policy acknowledgment.
  • Pass/fail competency exams required for medication administration, EKG/dysrhythmia, IV therapy, and pharmacology within 72 hours of contract signing.
  • References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
  • Work history verification required for at least 1 year prior to start date (New Jersey state mandate).

Additional Information

  • On-site fit testing is mandatory; facial hair must be clean-shaven unless a religious accommodation is approved.
  • Time off requests must be submitted and approved prior to offer.
  • Candidates must complete required online and in-person training modules as applicable.
  • Floating between units requires acknowledgment and compliance with facility floating policy.
  • Candidates with a history of positive TB tests require additional medical clearance documentation.
  • Drug screen panels must include all specified substances; blood tests are not accepted.
  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific CEU requirements and certifications as applicable.
