Description

Registered Nurse - Orthopedics (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Summary

  • Surgical unit with orthopedic and joint focus (total knee replacement, total hip replacement, spinal fusions)
  • Occasional medical overflow including some women's health cases (e.g., hysterectomies)
  • Average daily census: 34 patients; 48 beds/rooms
  • Float and weekend work required (every other weekend)
  • No call requirement

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Management and interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
  • Experience with nasal cannula respiratory support
  • Experience using Epic electronic health record system

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with total joint replacement surgeries

Unit & Equipment Details

  • Frequent use of wound vacs and drains
  • Unit systems include Pyxis, EPIC (electronic health record), and SBAR communication method
  • Scrubs: Navy blue (not provided)

Scheduling & Orientation

  • Scheduling and orientation are per unit needs
  • 36-hour work weeks can be offered
  • Interview with manager required before offer

Patient Diagnoses

  • Orthopedic surgical cases primarily
  • Some women's health surgical overflow

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or documentation of past positive)
  • Required immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Physical exam not required for crisis travelers
  • Various facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, medication safety training, and hospital policies must be completed prior to start
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire)

Additional Training & Competencies

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (minimum 82% score, three attempts allowed)
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam (for new contracts)
  • Facility-specific annual compliance and education modules required
  • Bloodborne pathogens training review required
  • Epic system test-out option available for experienced users (optional)

Notes

  • No call-offs or additional RTO (release time off) allowed after booking; violations may lead to cancellation
  • Float and weekend work required
  • Must complete all required documentation and training prior to start to avoid delays
  • Interview with hiring manager mandatory before offer
