Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse
Location: Athens, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)
- Charting System: Epic
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 1.5 years
- Travel Experience: Preferred (not explicitly required)
- Residency Restriction: Candidates residing in certain Texas counties (including Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris) are not eligible for this travel assignment.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – as applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – as applicable
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) – as applicable
- SAMA (State-specific Advanced Medical Authorization) – as applicable
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – as applicable
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy certification) – as applicable
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) – as applicable
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – as applicable
Required Licenses and Verifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Texas with primary source verification
- NURSYS verification for RN license
- Driver’s License or State ID
- Background checks including:
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks upon hire
- Education verification (highest level of education)
- Employment application and 7-year work history verification
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year
- TB questionnaire if positive TB test, renewed annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted; booster accepted if titer negative or equivocal
- Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history of chickenpox required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
Competency and Training Requirements
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
- Color blindness test (online version accepted)
- Competency exams as applicable (minimum passing score 80% or Angoff score if higher)
- Annual unit-specific skills checklist
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and HIPAA compliance
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1.5 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience
- Emergency Department experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certification
- SAMA (State-specific Advanced Medical Authorization) certification
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and verifications prior to start.
- Fingerprinting is required only for New Mexico placements (not applicable here).
- Candidates can attend orientation and Epic training pending clearance of background checks.
- Clear headshot photo required for badge issuance.
This position offers a 13-week travel contract for an experienced ER Registered Nurse with night shift availability and required certifications. Candidates must meet all licensure, health, and competency requirements to be eligible.
