Job Opportunity: Charge Nurse - Med/Surg Telemetry (MS/Tele) RN
Location

Shift Details
- Night shift
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Total 36 hours per week
Unit & Patient Population
- Med/Surg Telemetry unit
- Patient age range: 1 month through end of life
- Standard patient ratio: 1:6
- No floating between units
- Weekends required: 6 weekend shifts per schedule period
- No on-call or block schedules required
Role Expectations
- Function as a fully independent staff nurse
- Capable of independently assuming Charge Nurse responsibilities as needed
- Broad clinical competency required due to diverse patient age range
Required Certifications
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Required Licenses & Experience
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Experience in Charge Nurse roles
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Patient Care Ratios
- 1 nurse to 6 patients
Facility Type
- Short Term Acute Care
- Level IV Trauma Center
- Total staffed beds: 49
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card (as applicable)
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
- Education verification (nursing degree)
- NURSYS license verification for RNs
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Respirator medical clearance (RespSafety) required annually for travel candidates
- Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background)
Training & Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Competency exams as required by specialty
- Facility-specific and regional mandatory training modules (WorkRamp LMS), including:
- Annual regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules for Med/Surg Telemetry and Charge Nurse roles
- Epic training modules (if applicable)
- Trauma-informed care basics (effective 12/22/2025 for new/extended placements)
- Color blindness testing if required by unit
- Additional competency exams for specific roles or units as applicable
References & Employment History
- Minimum 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format for dates
- Work history verification may be required if reference requirements are not met
Additional Notes
- No floating between units, but may be required to float to another facility within reasonable distance per float policy acknowledgment
- Parking is free in any unrestricted space
- No on-call or block scheduling required
- 48-hour shifts are not approved
