Description

Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Coon Rapids, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Work in Mother Baby Center covering both labor and post-partum care.
  • Shift schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (Day: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / Night: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM).
  • Average daily census: approximately 8 deliveries and 15 post-partum patients per day.
  • Floating within scope of practice may be required to meet facility needs.
  • Weekend work: every other weekend required.
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated.
  • Candidates must be located outside a 100-mile radius (locals not accepted).
  • Pending licenses are accepted.
  • Return to office (RTO) restrictions: ideally no more than 5 days.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Minnesota
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor Delivery Recovery & Postpartum (LDRP) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience with sterile vaginal exams
  • Proficient in fetal monitoring including:
    • Use of external fetal monitoring
    • Use of internal fetal monitoring
    • Intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC) placement and calibration
    • Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Experience managing and administering epidural anesthesia
  • Certifications required:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

  • Acute care teaching hospital with Level 2 Trauma Center designation.
  • Total staffed beds: 258.
  • Electronic charting system: Epic (Excellian).
  • No parking fees.
  • Scrub color provided by the unit.

Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

  • Criminal background check required within one year of start date, including Minnesota statewide search.
  • MN DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance mandatory before starting; candidates must complete the MN DHS Net Study Questionnaire immediately after contract signing.
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Adult Tdap vaccine (or approved exemption)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity via 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series
    • Varicella immunity via positive titer or vaccination series
    • Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted)
  • Respiratory safety clearance (RespSafety) required prior to start for fit testing.
  • Drug testing (9-panel) within 1 year of start required but not for client clearance.
  • Photo for badge must be passport style, submitted within 48 hours of signing contract.
  • Completion of assigned online pre-orientation modules within 72 hours of receiving login credentials (approximately 11.5 hours for L&D RNs).

Additional Requirements

  • Medication and pharmacology competency exam required.
  • Annual skills checklist required.
  • No on-call duties required.
  • References not required for client clearance but may be required for per diem.

Notes

  • First-time travel nurses are accepted.
  • The client may cancel up to 3 shifts without penalty.
  • Badge and access requests will be handled post-contract signing; photo submission is mandatory for badge issuance.
