Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MS/Tele

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Unit and Role Details

  • Position primarily on a Medical-Surgical Orthopedic unit.
  • Floating to Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units as needed.
  • Strong orthopedic nursing experience required.
  • Minimum 1 year recent experience in a large healthcare facility.
  • Charge nurse experience preferred.
  • Must complete an EKG exam during onboarding.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience with Epic EMR.
  • Floating limited to units where staff are qualified and have documented competencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
  • Minimum of 1 year recent experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
  • Strong orthopedic nursing experience
  • Experience with Epic EMR
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing for medication and EKG competency

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS and BLS certifications current and not expiring within 30 days of start.
  • Pass/Fail Testing for Medication and Arrhythmia (EKG) exams required prior to start.
  • Core annual training (Parts I, II, III) including OSHA, patient safety, and ethical care.
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., TNCC, ENPC, NIH Stroke Certification, MAB or CPI).
  • HIPAA and OSHA training acknowledgment required.
  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to meet job demands.
  • Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Negative TB test (True 2-step PPD, QF Gold, or T-Spot) within 90 days of start.
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • Current Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (within 10 years) if working/floating to high-risk areas.
  • Documentation of immunity or vaccination for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required by deadlines.
  • Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually (5-panel minimum).

Onboarding and Compliance

  • Online orientation modules must be completed within 72 hours of assignment; failure to complete will delay start.
  • Pre-assignment testing (medication and EKG) must be completed within 72 hours of receiving login.
  • Candidates have two attempts to pass required tests; failure results in cancellation.
  • Badge photo required prior to start (passport-style, plain background, no obstructions).
  • Background checks and sanction screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC) required and must be current.
  • Fingerprinting required if applicable based on residency and assignment type.

Additional Information

  • Floating is required as part of the role but limited to qualified units.
  • The hospital is a Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center with 641 licensed beds.
  • Advanced specialty programs include cardiac care, stroke, vascular services, and an Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) unit.
  • Candidates must be prepared for a fast-paced, teaching hospital environment.
