Description
Job Opportunity: Telemetry Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit & Patient Population
- Surgical Cardiac Telemetry Unit
- Care for patients with myocardial infarction, rule out MI, primary arrhythmias
- Pre/post open-heart surgery and vascular surgery patients
- Coronary artery disease, heart failure, pre/post cath lab patients (with or without interventions)
- Stroke patients with cardiac involvement
- Specialized structural heart support including VAD and TAVR
Job Responsibilities & Skills
- Telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management
- Management of open heart surgery patients 24-28 hours post-op
- Cardioversion/defibrillation and epicardial pacer management
- Blood and blood products administration
- Breathing treatments, chest tube setup and care, CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy care
- Radial and groin band management
- IV skills required
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in telemetry nursing
- Surgical telemetry experience including open heart surgery and vascular cases
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) experience
- Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
- Flexibility to float to like units as needed
- Must be available to work every other weekend
Required Certifications
- ACLS (American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
- BLS (American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
Licensing
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Washington or compact license honored by the facility
Staffing Ratio
- Nurse to patient ratio typically 1:4, can be 1:5 during midnight shift
Additional Requirements
- Must provide government-issued photo ID and Social Security Card as applicable
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
- Education verification required (nursing degree verification mandatory)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (declination accepted)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 12 months of start
- Respirator clearance required annually for travel candidates
- Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background) required
Compliance & Training
- Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS
- Epic system training and transcript verification required
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Floating policy acknowledgment required
References & Employment History
- Minimum 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of relevant experience within the last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of work history with explanations for any gaps or overlaps
Notes
- Candidates must be flexible and able to float to similar units within the facility or nearby locations
- This position does not accept first-time travel nurses; prior travel experience is mandatory
- Every other weekend work is required
- Background checks and credential verifications are strictly enforced and must be current
This role is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs with surgical cardiac experience seeking a travel contract in Seattle, WA, working night shifts in a specialized cardiac telemetry unit.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
