Description

Registered Nurse (Med Surg) - Travel Assignment

Location: El Paso, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (Night Shift)
Hours per Week: 36
Call: No call required
Weekend Commitment: 4 weekend shifts


Unit Overview

  • Unit: 5th Floor, Main Hospital, North Side
  • Department Number: 63424
  • Unit Type: Med Surg with Trauma/Neuro and Ortho focus
  • Number of Beds: 20
  • Staff on Unit: 33 (Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 4 RNs, 2 PCTs)
  • Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
  • Equipment Used: Wound vac, trach, suction, Plum 360 IV pumps, Covidien Kangaroo ePump, Polar Ice Machine
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Meditech

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Skills & Procedures

Must Have:

  • BLS certification
  • Starting IVs
  • Foley catheter insertion and management
  • Nasogastric tube (NGT) insertion and management
  • Colostomy system exchange
  • Drain management (including JP, Hemovac, Wound Vac, Accordion drains)

Preferred:

  • Chest tube management
  • Trauma experience

Typical Procedures on Unit:

  • Orthopedic procedures involving knees, hips, shoulders
  • Management of external fixators for trauma patients

Work Environment & Culture

  • Team-oriented and compassionate work culture
  • Dress code: Scrubs in galaxy blue or black; jackets in blue or grey
  • Natural hair color required; no visible tattoos allowed
  • Trauma and geriatric standards of care followed
  • Clean narcotic administration practices enforced
