Description

Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Monroe, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Float pool position requiring floating to a specific unit as needed.
  • Patient age groups include Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics.
  • Facility operates 4-6 ORs daily with approximately 80% outpatient and 20% inpatient cases.
  • Surgical specialties include General, Gynecology, Orthopedics (spine and joints), ENT, Urology, Endoscopy, Neurology (mostly spine, possible on-call craniotomy), Bariatrics, and Pain Management.
  • Use of advanced equipment including Xi Robotics (required skill), Hana table, Jackson table, Olympus endoscopy equipment, and Storz video equipment.
  • Average daily census ranges from 15-30 patients.
  • On-call requirement: 2-4 weekday calls and 1-2 weekend calls per 6-week period.
  • No local candidates accepted within 50 miles.
  • Scrubs color: Green.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Michigan
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Case experience in the following surgical specialties: Orthopedics, Urology, Endoscopy, Neurology, OB/GYN, Bariatrics, and ENT Surgery

Shift Details

  • Day shift: 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM (5 days per week, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week).

Compliance and Screening Requirements

  • 7-year background check within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required annually.
  • Education verification of highest level required.
  • Primary source verification of Michigan RN license required, including NURSYS verification.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable unless on prescription).
  • Physical exam within last 12 months (latex-free PPE available).
  • N95 fit test required within 12 months of start and updated annually; onsite completion possible with approval if needed.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or approved exemptions for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved exemption
    • Varicella - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved exemption
    • Hepatitis B series, positive titer, or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption (required during flu season)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 3 months of start, updated annually; chest x-ray required if history of positive TB.
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years, including at least one from a leader (Charge RN or above).
  • Skills checklist required for all candidates.

Additional Information

  • Floating to the specified unit is mandatory.
  • First-time travelers accepted.
  • Radiation badges issued by facility if applicable (not recruiter responsibility).
  • Dress code: Green scrubs; candidates should review facility dress code guidelines.

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with diverse surgical specialty experience and the ability to float within a float pool setting. Prior travel experience is not required.
