Echocardiography Technician (Echo Tech)
Location: Janesville, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday
- On-call weekend rotation every 7 weeks
Job Description
- Perform two- and three-dimensional ultrasonic recordings and Doppler flow analyses of the heart and related structures to assist physicians in diagnosing heart disease.
- Conduct echocardiographic examinations including M-mode, 2D/3D Doppler, transesophageal (TEE), and stress echocardiograms.
- Maintain responsibility for the quality of examinations and use clinical judgment to determine the need for additional testing protocols.
- Provide emotional support, physical comfort, and ensure safety of patients and visitors.
- Maintain equipment and work area in proper working condition.
- Recognize arrhythmias and notify physicians of abnormal EKG findings such as acute MI, complete heart block, wide QRS, tachycardia, or heart rate >140.
- Assess and correct deficiencies in electrocardiographic and echocardiographic recordings; document unresolved issues.
- Provide technical comments on diagnostic findings to physicians and discuss discrepancies.
- Document patient and procedural information thoroughly in medical records, ensuring charge accuracy of 98%.
- Educate patients and families about procedures and document education in patient records.
- Respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Follow established procedures for equipment use and notify appropriate personnel of equipment needing repair.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program (education verification required)
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience as an Echo Technologist within the last year
Additional Information
- Work involves adult echocardiography, stress testing, TEE, and call coverage, which may include some pediatric cases.
- Must be able to work flexible hours as needed.
