Job Opportunity: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Medical Surgical

Location

  • Rochester, New York

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Schedule

  • Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed

Unit Details

  • Complex care unit for Medicine, orthopedic overflow, and complex long-term patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5–6
  • Floating within skillset required
  • Uniform: Navy blue and white scrub colors

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid LPN / LVN license in New York
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience with blood product administration
  • Skills and experience in:
    • Central line care/management
    • PICC line management
    • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
    • Trach care/management
    • Heparin protocols
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Charting and Documentation

  • EPIC electronic health record experience required

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start (including felony, SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
  • Education verification from primary source required (not hard copy degrees)
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific acceptable mask types)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Certifications (as required by unit)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • NIH Stroke Certification

Competencies and Testing

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as required
  • Color blindness testing required (one-time)
  • Competency exams as required by specialty

Onboarding and Facility Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
  • Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Various facility-specific attestations and forms to be completed prior to start
  • Parking pass form required for orientation

References and Employment Verification

  • Two references within 3 years required (for direct hire only)
  • Employment history verification of at least two past employments required

This position offers an opportunity to work in a complex care medical surgical unit with a supportive team environment and requires strong clinical skills in acute care nursing. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
