MRI Tech - Travel/Contract
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
- Shift: Night shift, 18:30 - 07:00 (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
- Hours per week: 36 (3 shifts x 12 hours)
- Floating required to other units as needed
- No call requirement
- Must be available for hospital and unit orientation (total 12 hours unit orientation, plus hospital orientation week one)
- Scrubs color: Royal blue
- Expected start date subject to change based on orientation/trainer availability; missing orientation may delay or cancel start
- No RTO (return to office) allowed after booking
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Radiology/Cardiology specialty
- Prior travel experience not required
- Skills include but not limited to:
- Adult Acute Care, Adult ICU, Adult Outpatient, ER/Trauma imaging
- MRI procedures: Abdomen, Female/Male Pelvis, Breast, Chest, Brain, Head MRA/MRV, Neck MRV, Spine (Cervical, Lumbar, Thoracic), Extremities (Foot, Hand, Hip, Knee, Shoulder)
- Use of GE and Siemens MRI equipment and PACS system
- Preparation and administration of contrast media
- Starting peripheral IVs
- Image post-processing techniques (Diffusion, Gradient Echo, MIP, MPR, Spin Echo, T1/T2 weighted images)
- Isolation precautions and PPE
Preferred Skills
- Advanced MRI angiography and venography (Abdominal MRA/MRV, Peripheral MRA, CINE studies, Perfusion imaging)
- Imaging of Sternum, Temporomandibular joint, and other specialized studies
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ARRT MR and R (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - Magnetic Resonance and Radiography)
Equipment & Systems
- MRI machines: GE, Siemens
- PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System)
- Documentation and communication via EPIC electronic health record system
Orientation & Training
- Hospital orientation during week one (daily classes required)
- Unit orientation: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (12 hours total)
- Must be fully available with no other commitments during orientation
- Optional Epic test-out available for experienced candidates (not guaranteed)
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal, sex offender, and education verification required within specified timeframes
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required (not required for non-clinical)
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), Flu vaccine or approved exemption during flu season
- TB testing: Negative PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray and physician-signed TB questionnaire required annually
- Annual compliance and mandatory education training required
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, dress code acknowledgment, medication safety training, and others must be completed prior to start
- Radiation badge required for Radiology staff (process managed by agency for travel staff)
- Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exams and other required competency tests as applicable
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid MRI Technologist license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of MRI Technologist experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working in an outpatient setting
- Proficient with Siemens MRI equipment
- Current BLS certification
- ARRT certification in Magnetic Resonance (MR)
- ARRT certification in Radiography (R)
Important Notes
- Contract staff may be assigned to disaster response teams and required to report during catastrophic events
- Floating to other units within the hospital system may be required
- Candidate must provide a passport-style photo on a white background for badge creation immediately after signing contract
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel allied and acute care candidates
- Employment application must be uploaded to facility system prior to start
This position is ideal for MRI Technologists with at least 2 years of experience in acute care radiology settings, comfortable working night shifts, and able to comply with comprehensive orientation and credentialing requirements.
