Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Rotating weekdays, weekends, and holidays
- Float Requirement: Must be willing to float to different units within the organization as needed
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 4 patients
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
- Monthly monitoring through EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG databases
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Proof of licensure verification within 30 days of start
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease
- Required immunizations and/or titers:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation
- Hepatitis B – titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31); mask required if declining
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal supervisor
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
- Candidates must be prepared for a fast-paced environment with rotating shifts and floating responsibilities
- Facility uses EPIC for documentation and charting
- Fingerprinting and background checks are time-sensitive and must be completed according to facility-specific protocols
