Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Work primarily in Med/Surg and ICU Step-down units, with possible assignments in the Emergency Department.
- Patient population ranges from adolescents to geriatrics.
- Respiratory care department operates at the top of their license.
- Patient load: 35-45 patients per day.
- On-call required as needed based on workload.
- No floating to other facilities; float only within the assigned medical center.
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts within a 6-week period.
- Orientation includes day and night shifts; night shift RTs will need a few days of day shift orientation.
- Scrubs color: Black.
Required Skills and Experience
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience in an Acute Care setting.
- Proficient in ventilator management.
- Experience with CPAP and vest therapy.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
- Current certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Certifications and Licenses
- Current North Carolina Respiratory Care License.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred but not required.
- Note: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential not accepted for this position.
Equipment and Technology
- Experience with ventilators and respiratory equipment such as:
- Servo I, Servo U
- Hamilton T1
- V60
- Night-time VPAP
- Omni-labs and V30 ventilators
- ABL90 ABG machine
Compliance and Onboarding Requirements
- Background check within 6 months required.
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months required.
- Immunizations and health documentation required, including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive TB with appropriate documentation)
- Rubeola (Measles) immunity or vaccination
- Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella immunizations or documentation
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- N95 fit testing required (can be completed onsite if necessary).
- Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training.
- Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport-style photo on white background, business attire).
- Must complete Medication Safety training and other facility-specific orientation requirements.
- Must complete competency exams and pharmacology/medication tests as required.
- Onboarding includes setting up a corporate ID and logging into the facility’s learning system within 24 hours of receiving credentials.
Additional Notes
- No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation.
- Call requirement is workload dependent.
- Orientation schedule: 7a-7p for day shift, 7p-7a for night shift; night shift RTs require some day shift orientation days.
- The unit practices a high standard of respiratory care with a diverse patient population.
- The position requires adherence to hospital policies and confidentiality agreements.
