Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - North Carolina

Job Details

  • Location: Jefferson, North Carolina
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (option to sign 36 or 48-hour shifts)
  • Hours per Week: 48 hours
  • Patient Ratio: 1:6
  • Scheduling: Self-schedule
  • Float Requirement: No (may occasionally work as sitter or monitor tech)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend; includes 2 shifts plus one day of on-site training with educator
  • Unit Systems: Meditech, SBAR, Omnicell
  • Scrubs: Navy color required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience
  • Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Compliance & Background Checks

  • Background checks required within 90 days of start, including:
    • Local County, Federal Court, National Criminal Database, DOJ Sex Offender Search
    • Education verification for highest degree earned specific to nursing profession
  • Drug screening required within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result)
  • North Carolina state-specific searches required within 90 days prior to start:
    • Division of Medical Assistance Excluded Providers List
    • NC Health Care Personnel Registry

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (within 30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit mask testing required (N95 mask within 1 year or PAPR training; PAPR not accepted in this facility)
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no specific timeframe)
    • Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year) or chest x-ray if positive TB history
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: titer, vaccination series, or facility-specific declination if negative/equivocal
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1–10/31)

Orientation & Training

  • Unit orientation shifts plus one day of on-site training with educator
  • Medication Safety training module completion required with certificate of completion
  • Competency exams as applicable, including:
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must pass with 82% or higher within 72 hours of start)
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
    • Color Blind Testing (within 1 year via Relias)
  • Annual compliance and facility-specific education modules required
  • Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist required for North Carolina travel candidates

Documentation & Facility Requirements

  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Confidentiality agreement, hospital policies, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and other facility-specific documents must be reviewed and signed
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire, no headwear except glasses)
  • Agency badge required for per diem candidates
  • Corp ID and I-Learn account setup required prior to start (password setup and login within 24 hours of receiving email)

Additional Notes

  • Interview with manager required prior to offer
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel and acute care candidates
  • Performance evaluation required if worked with Aya Healthcare over 1 year
  • Radiation badge required only for specific tech and specialty roles (not applicable here)
