Description

Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Avon, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Schedule: 3x12s or 4x12s shifts; every other weekend required
  • Staffing Ratio: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
  • Floating: Required to float to other MedSurg units
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Indiana residents are not accepted (with exceptions for Periop/OR RN, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers)
  • COVID-19 vaccine required (medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications (as applicable)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
  • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) (if applicable)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (if applicable)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Unit competency exam required
  • Color Blindness testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with 100% minimum score

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam completed within 12 months of start date
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start date (approved respirators only)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start date
  • Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start date
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required with no declinations accepted except for medical/religious exemptions where noted:
    • COVID-19 vaccine
    • Rubeola (Measles): positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Mumps: positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31); no declinations accepted except approved medical/religious exemptions
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine preferred but not required
  • TB Questionnaire updated annually

Background & Documentation

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background check within 90 days of start, including 7-year history and international search if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and official transcript/diploma required
  • State license verification within 30 days of start
  • Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment with supervisory titles
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific compliance, confidentiality, and orientation documents prior to start
  • Review and completion of self-study orientation and tests as required
  • Acknowledgement of HIPAA and safety manuals

Notes

  • Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers from Indiana are exempt from the Indiana resident restriction and may work past the November 30, 2024 deadline.
  • On-site fit testing is limited and requires prior approval; PAPR use requires facility approval.

This position is ideal for RNs with Medical Surgical experience seeking a travel contract in Indiana with a structured 12-hour day shift schedule and a supportive team environment.
