OR Tech / Surgical Tech Travel/Contract Job - La Plata, Maryland

Position Details

• Specialty: Surgical Services

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Days (will accept either 5x8-hour shifts from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM or 4x10-hour shifts from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM)
• Hours per Week: 40 hours
• Patient Age Range: Pediatrics through Geriatrics
• Operating Rooms: 4 rooms, 1:1 staffing ratio
• Average Daily Census: 15 patients

Work Environment & Unit Details

• Multispecialty OR setting including:

  • General Surgery
  • Orthopedics (total joints)
  • Gynecology
  • Urology
  • Podiatry
  • Endoscopy
  • Vascular (percutaneous catheter placements, femoral-popliteal, peripheral vascular cases)
  • Pediatric Dentistry
  • ENT
• No trauma, cardiac, or robotics cases
• Special equipment used:

  • Stryker video/power systems
  • Hologic fluid management system
  • Arthrex arthroscopes

Schedule & On-Call Requirements

• Holidays: Required as scheduled, including on-call shifts
• Weekends: Required only if scheduled for on-call (approximately 1 weekend on-call every 4-5 weeks)
• Floating: Required to float to OB to assist with C-sections
• On-call: 1 shift per week; 1 weekend (Friday-Sunday) every 4-5 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience
• Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year criminal search, SSN trace, nationwide and sex offender checks, education verification, and state-specific exclusions
• Drug testing: Negative 10-panel plus Fentanyl screen within 45 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test (N95 respirator) within 1 year of start; must be medically cleared to wear
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or proof of vaccination/boosters
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination (series not accepted)
• TB screening: Negative QGOLD or TSPOT within 30 days of start or 2-step PPD testing as per protocol; must be updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (October to March)
• COVID-19 vaccination not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking purposes
• Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, dress code review, badge photo, and computer system agreements must be completed prior to start

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher) as applicable
• Age-specific competency exam (score 80% or higher)
• Color blindness testing (required for clinical candidates)
• Other competency exams as applicable by profession

Additional Notes

• Attestation and verification documents such as I9, E-Verify, and government-issued photo ID required
• Must complete facility-specific orientation and compliance paperwork in a timely manner
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
