OR Tech First Assistant - Surgical Services

Location: La Plata, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: June 1, 2026

Work Schedule

• Day shift, 40 hours per week
• Accepts either 5 days of 8 hours (7:30 AM - 4:00 PM) or 4 days of 10 hours (7:30 AM - 6:00 PM)
• On-call: 1 shift per week; 1 weekend (Friday-Sunday) every 4-5 weeks
• Weekend on-call required as scheduled (approximately 1 weekend every 4-5 weeks)
• Floating to OB to assist with C-sections required
• Holidays required as scheduled, including on-call

Unit and Patient Population

• Multispecialty Operating Room (OR) setting
• Procedures include: General surgery, Orthopedics (total joints), Gynecology, Urology, Podiatry, Endoscopy, Vascular (percutaneous catheter placements, fempops, peripheral vascular cases), Pediatric dentistry, ENT
• No trauma, cardiac, or robotics cases
• Patient age range: Pediatrics through Geriatrics
• Average daily census: 15 patients
• Room ratio: 1:1 for 4 OR rooms

Equipment and Supplies

• Stryker video/power equipment
• Hologic fluid management system
• Arthrex arthroscopes
• Sterile surgical scrubs provided on-site

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a First Assist Technician
• First Assist Technician experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only)

Documentation and Compliance

• Two supervisory references within 1 year of start (charge RNs or supervisors/managers)
• Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
• Verification of previous 5 years of work history (attestation accepted if necessary)
• Photo for badge (passport style with solid white/beige background)
• Completion of facility-specific agreements and confidentiality statements prior to start
• Completion of background and license verifications as required
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable

Additional Notes

• Candidate must be prepared to work in a fast-paced multispecialty OR environment with a variety of surgical procedures
• Floating to OB for C-section assistance is mandatory
• On-call and weekend shifts are part of the schedule and must be accepted as assigned
